The jewels of the Duchess were bought by her husband Edward (the former King Edward VIII) or herself. The only pieces given to the Duchess by the Royal family were the pearls of Queen Mary as a final gesture towards her son Edward and his wife, as somewhat of an apology.

The Ruby Peacock Tiara: Made for Queen Wilhelmina in 1897, it’s probably most closely associated with Beatrix’s sister, Princess Irene, who wore the tiara many times. But Irene ran into some royal roadblocks when she lost her succession rights – and left the country for nearly 20 years – after her controversial marriage to Prince Carlos of Bourbon-Parma in the 1960s. The tiara gathered dust for some time before it was brought out again by Princess Maxima.

The sapphire is flanked by 6 baguette diamonds and surrounded by 18 single cut stones all set in a handmade platinum setting. The stones have been certified by The Gem & Pearl Lab of London, England.
