Strathmore Rose Tiara was a wedding gift to Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon from her father, the Earl of Strathmore for her marriage to the future King George VI. tiara is entirely made of diamonds, w/ 5 large roses. This tiara was worn by the Queen Mum as a bandeau low across her forehead, a stylish way to wear a tiara in the 20s and 30s. It can also be worn in a more traditional way on the top of the head. Queen Elizabeth II inherited the tiara from her mother, and has worn this tiara a few times.
1893 a committee formed to raise money for Girls of Great Britain & Ireland to purchase a wedding gift for the future Queen Mary. after buying the diamond tiara w/a festoon & scroll design surplus money was given to aid the widows & orphans of men lost in the sinking of HMS Victoria. Elizabeth II often wears this tiara @ state occasions.
